Toyota Fortuner (GUN1##R) up to 2020
Toyota Prado (GDJ150R) up to 2020
Engine Type: 2.8L turbo diesel 1GD-FTV
The Toyota 1GD engine first entered the Australian market in 2015, debuting in the Toyota Hilux (referred to as the “new-generation” Hilux) and later appearing in the Toyota Prado, HiAce and Fortuner. This engine was introduced to replace the older 3.0-liter 1KD-FTV diesel engine, offering improved fuel efficiency, performance, and emissions compliance.
It is a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbocharged diesel that has earned popularity for its strong performance and fuel efficiency, however, despite its strengths, there have been some reported issues including premature camshaft wear.
As you can see in the below technical service bulletin TSB 00162T-TME the intake and exhaust camshaft lobes are known to wear excessively over time due to manufacturing defects. Toyota now offer a superseded part number to rectify the problem and the revised camshafts can be found in our web store here. We also have improved aftermarket direct replacements available soon to overcome the Toyota 1GD-FTV camshaft failure issues.
