The newest addition to our torque plate family suits the Toyota 1HZ, 1HD-T and 1HD-FTE engines and is highly recommended for high boost or performance builds, and is even beneficial for standard rebuilds. Torque plate honing is a precision engine machining technique used during the cylinder honing process to ensure optimal cylinder shape and ring sealing when an engine is running under normal operating conditions.
When a cylinder head is fitted onto an engine, it causes the engine block and cylinder bores to distort slightly due to the clamping forces from the head bolts. This distortion is not visible to the naked eye but it can be enough to affect piston ring sealing and overall engine performance.
By simulating these stresses during honing, a torque plate ensures the bores are round and straight under operating conditions, not just at rest. This leads to:
